Ipswich School’s Headmaster, Nicholas Weaver, said how proud he was of this year’s A Level students , as the results were announced this morning (Tuesday 10 August 2021). He said:

“Through the whole pandemic, this group of students have worked so hard to achieve these results, and I am very proud of the way in which they have dealt with everything that has come their way - online learning, revisions to assessments and changes to what has been expected of them. Well done to them all!”

He added:

“Throughout the school we develop a joy of learning in our students and it has been great to see them engage so enthusiastically with our exceptional co-curricular programme, and the Leavers’ Challenge which ran after the formal assessments this summer. I am also proud of the way in which our teaching staff have delivered an outstanding and comprehensive education through the most testing time, to ensure that our young people are well-prepared for the next stage of their journey.”

Ipswich School is celebrating diversity across the excellent achievements of our students today. We have an exceptionally broad A Level curriculum with 27 subjects offered to students. It has been encouraging to see our two most recent additions to the curriculum, Computer Science and Politics, prove popular and successful choices, with students achieving 22 A*-B grades in these new subjects. 

We are also excited to see our young women and young men going on to a diverse range of university courses, including engineering, computer science, international relations, architecture, modern languages, music and the performing arts, with four students taking up places at Oxbridge and a further four achieving places to study medicine.

Some particular student successes include Ben Althen and Ameera Cunningham, who each achieved 5 A* grades. Ameera will be studying Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge, while Ben is going to be studying Politics and International Studies at Warwick University. Head Girl Florence Grist achieved 4 A* grades and will be going to the University of Birmingham to study Music and Russian, and Head Boy Charlie Coe achieved 3 A* grades and is going to Durham University to study Geography.

In total, 22 students achieved 3 or more A* grades and 10 of these students achieved 4 or more A* grades. Evan McNab achieved 4 A* and an A grade and will be studying Medicine at Leeds University and James Preedy achieved 4A* grades to study History, French and Politics at Durham University. Vadan Khan will be studying Physics at the University of Manchester after achieving 4 A* grades; Rosie Sibley also achieved 4 A* grades and will be studying Physics as well, this time at Durham University.
