Obituary - Angus Hamilton OI 1979-86

We are sorry to announce the passing of Angus

We are very sorry to notify you of the passing of Angus, who attended the School from 1979 until 1986.  Angus was the son of Ivan Hamilton who taught at the School from 1979 until 1990.

Angus passed away at the weekend.

We are conscious that some people who knew Angus during his time at the School may not be in contact with us and we would be very grateful if you could pass on this information to those that you know.

As is usual practice, we would like to place an obituary for Angus in the 2025-26 OI Journal. If you know of any stories or memories which you can pass on to us so we can put them together for the publication we would be most grateful. Please address any contributions to me through oldipswichians@ipswich.school

Angus & I were best of friends, we grow up together sharing our lives and experiences as boys, teenagers & men. Angus was full of the joy of life, confident, playful, and happy.

Like all the Hamilton family, Angus was a very good all-rounder at sport, regularly winning swimming competitions and getting accolades in athletics, rugby and hocky where he bravely defended the goal for his house. Angus’s passion for acting & the theatre started a school, and Wolsey Theatre Youth Group where he played many leading roles including a very cool Danny in a production of Greece. His zest for life continued as we all disappeared off to universities scattered across the country, Angus gained a place at Guilford School of Acting.

I asked Angus to be my best man when Kate & I got married back in 1990 and of course he did a brilliant job. Angus was a true gentleman, kind, supportive and thoughtful, he always had a smile and would be there to laugh and enjoy life, listen, offer support, friendship & kindness.

Life seemed to go on fast forward as we all settled down with partners, families, and work. But Angus kept in touch with many of his Ipswich School friends and we would regularly meet up at OI dinners, Christmas drinks, and gatherings every so often to catch up and share stories of our family lives.

It was clear that Angus and Janine had a family full of love and he was so proud of their daughters Ophelia and Tilly. The strength of this shone through during Angus’ illness and at the hospital where he was surrounded by love and joy.

Angus, we now have a hole our lives… - rest in peace Good Sir.
