David Wilson ( OI 1954-65 ) writes:

Derek was a life long friend of mine for nearly 65 years. We met in Prep C Ipswich School in 1954 and often confused the teachers as we looked very similar at that age! After leaving the School, Derek went on to have a very successful career with Barclays Bank, starting as a trainee, then working in many different branches around East Suffolk and North Essex before ending up as Manager of the Woodbridge and Martlesham branches. We shared many interests including model railways, golf and watching our beloved Ipswich Town FC together.
Derek married in 1969. Sadly in 1995 Derek was first diagnosed with the onset of Parkinsons at only 49 years old.
By 2000 he had been forced to retire but continued to enjoy his golf and go on holidays right up to around 2013. He was a popular member of Ufford Park GC and managed to play respectable golf despite his disability.
I visited him regularly at home after 2013 and he always welcomed me with a coffee and a Kit-Kat! We always put the world to rights first and then Derek always wanted to catch up on any news I had of any OI’s in our age group.
He fought his Parkinsons with immense courage right up until the end. Derek was a dedicated family man and leaves behind his devoted wife Carol and their 2 sons, Paul and Andrew and their families.
