On Thursday 8th October, OIs gathered at the atmospheric Crypt at Bleeding Heart for this year’s London Dinner. With over 70 guests in attendance, the evening was a fantastic celebration filled with warmth, nostalgia and plenty of laughter.
The event kicked off with welcome drinks on the terrace, providing a lovely setting for attendees to catch up and reconnect. The Old Ipswichian Committee took the opportunity to capture some memorable group photos before guests headed inside for the main proceedings.
OI President David Rowledge (OI 1978–89) opened the evening with a warm speech, thanking everyone for their continued support and sharing a few fond memories of his time at the School. Following David’s opening remarks, guests were treated to an entertaining Q&A session with guest speaker and All Blacks rugby legend Zinzan Brooke, interviewed by Russell Heap (OI 1985-87). Zinzan kept the room captivated with humorous anecdotes, behind-the-scenes insights, and fascinating facts from his illustrious career.
Before dinner was served, Chair of the OI Committee, Sally Webber (OI 1993–95) said grace. Guests then sat down to an exquisite three-course meal featuring Confit Loch Duart Salmon with charred cauliflower Caesar, Norfolk Black Chicken ‘pot au feu’ served with roasted chestnut mushrooms & liver dumpling and a Classic Crème Brûlée with Bleeding Heart shortbread, followed by coffee & petit fours
The meal was accompanied by a selection of wines, including a refreshing Le Cabanon Viognier, Maison Les Alexandrins (Rhône, France, 2024) and a rich Primitivo ‘I Muri’, Vigneti del Salento (Puglia, Italy, 2024).
Following the meal, Head Nick Gregory (OI 1981-88) welcomed the OIs, sharing plenty of laughter and connecting with former classmates across the generations. The highlight of the night came shortly after, when Zinzan Brooke took center stage once more to perform the Haka, which was an incredible, powerful moment that blew everyone in the room away. All in all, it was a truly brilliant evening of great food, wonderful company and unforgettable entertainment. Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the night such a success. We look forward to seeing you at our next event!
