Professor John Anthony Belk, BSc, PhD, CEng, FIM
A proud old boy of the school passed away on 18 September age 94. From his papers I have ascertained that he joined Ipswich School in 1941 and left in 1948, having been a boarder from Jan 1947 to Jul 1948.
He often spoke (mostly with fond memories) of his time at the school, with the one exception being the boarding house food! He was an avid reader of the old Ipswichian journal in his latter years and maintained a keen interest in the activities and achievements of pupils and the school in general.
I have no doubt that his considerable academic achievements and strong religious beliefs that guided him through his life were directly attributable to his formative education at Ipswich School. His life long regret was that he couldn't grasp Latin well enough to compete for a place at Cambridge University but his other talents were numerous and certainly did not hold him back. His last job before retirement was Professor of Materials Technology at the Royal Military College of Science.
Mike Belk (Tony's Son).
