Further expansion into Anglesea Heights site

Exciting times ahead

Ipswich School is pleased to announce a further expansion into the Anglesea Heights property we bought in January 2019, with the move of some boarding provision into the building from September 2020.

The school’s current Year 12 boarders will move into an Upper Sixth Form Boarding House being created on the site. One of the existing buildings is being remodelled to create an attractive space for these older pupils, with ensuite facilities, providing an experience similar to that of a university hall of residence.

Headmaster Nicholas Weaver explained: “Our numbers have steadily grown over the last few years, and the expansion of boarding into Anglesea Heights will help us meet the demand for an Ipswich School education from people further away, both in the UK and abroad.”

He added: “Our innovative ‘life skills’ programme for Sixth Form students, called The Edge, provides students with many of the key skills they will need to thrive at university and in life beyond school. The Upper Sixth Form Boarding House will be another part of this programme for our older students who are living away from home, and will create more space for other day pupils who want to try occasional or flexi boarding in preparation for life after school.”

The school’s current boarding house, which is a short walk from the main Henley Road site, will also be able to take more students once the older students move out.

Ipswich School has already expanded its Prep School provision into Anglesea Heights, with a new Year 6 classroom having opened in September 2019.

Mr Weaver added: “We are delighted that Ipswich School continues to grow from strength to strength, having been named as the top independent school in Suffolk once again in the 2019 Sunday Times Parent Power report. By expanding into Anglesea Heights we are able to ensure that this iconic Ipswich site remains well looked after."
